Sometimes, it is easy to forget why you are putting yourself through all this work. Like many, you may have had a lot of motivation right at the beginning, but found your determination flagging after a bit. This is the time frame that separates the men from the boys (so to speak). You see other people being successful in their drive and determination, and you wonder how you can get that for yourself. What factors are keeping them motivated and successful?
Identifying your most important weight loss goals is the first step in your weight loss program. In your mind’s eye, what do you want your future to look like because you have lost weight? Do you want to run a marathon, or maybe just some charity running events? Is a certain weight the one you are after? Do you just want a healthier body?
Keep and ongoing record of your weight loss progress. Only weigh yourself one time weekly. Weighing yourself every day or more than once a week can contribute to anxiety if you are not seeing results. Use a food journal to track all of your meals, snacks, beverages and the calories they contain. This should include any snacks and beverages. Jotting down everything we eat and drink can prevent us from making bad choices.
If you give up on your healthy eating schedule, you are asking for disaster. If you allow yourself to get too hungry, it is hard to keep self-control. Schedule your meals and menus in advance, and have snacks on hand to eat when you’re hungry. If you can bring your own lunch, do it. You will cut back on costs and lessen the chance you will make a bad decision when it comes to what you are going to eat.
Dieting is a great place to start for anyone looking to lose weight, but you won’t get the results you desire until you start exercising regularly. Combining a healthy diet with good exercise habits is the key to making real progress. Sticking to activities that interest you will make it much easier for you to keep exercising. Seek out activities that will be fun for you. Find exercise classes that intrigue you and get to know your classmates so that you develop the type of social interaction that keeps you motivated to return.
Don’t leave tempting but unhealthy treats in your house. Stock your pantry with only healthy food that’s good for you so that it’s all you’ll have to eat. The more difficult it is for you to eat junk food, the less likely you are to eat it.
Making sure you have proper support is really important to your weight loss goals. No-one can lose weight for you but having a good support system in place makes it easier to get motivated and stay motivated. When you are at a low point and want to give up, simply talking to someone who cares can make a big difference.
With a bit of luck, this now gives a clearer understanding of why it is important to find a diet that really works for you for the long term; however when doing so make sure you consult your doctor before starting.
