If you are a Melbourne resident you no doubt have a timber fence around your boundary. Many backyards Victoria wide have the stock standard paling fence which is typical of suburbia.
Unfortunately not a lot of us place much importance on our paling fence and we find ourselves replacing one or more sides every 10-15 years. Of course, general wear and tear and age will have an effect on the fence but if you live in the bayside suburbs of Melbourne the continual exposure to the salty air will speed up the aging of your timber fence.
The first step in replacing or repairing your fencing is to find a reputable Braeside timber fence company. There are many such companies around Melbourne and no doubt most of them will give you an excellent result but be aware that some may not.
When I got my paling fence replaced just over 18 months ago I got a handful of quotes. I wanted to ensure that I had a variety of quotes so that I could make an educated decision on who to use. Also I used different tactics to get these quotes. With each timber fence tradesman I asked questions in a different angle to gauge it’s effectiveness.
For example, I asked one for a quote on a “wooden fence”. The quote from this tradesman was considerably higher from the rest. I put this down to the fact that I asked for a “wooden” fence quote and not a “timber” or “paling” fence quote. Obviously asking for “wooden” would infer I am not that knowledgable about fencing and they sensed that and submitted a quote a lot higher than normal.
It was no coincidence I selected the contractor who submitted a competitive quote after I stated that I needed the following:
1. Treated pine palings
2. 1.8 meteres in height
3. I needed capping
4. I asked for his opinion on a stain to use on a section of the fence.
In other words, I gave him the impression I knew a fair bit about timber fences and did not want the wool pulled over my eyes as far as price went.

Or you can be more specific and replace Melbourne with your actual suburb. For example:

On the other side of the coin is if you searched for something similar to Notting Hill Wooden Fence your results would not give you the information you need. It is not specific enough.
