The central nervous system works to produce a number of hormones which regulate various physiological functions from growth to heart rate and breathing. The anxiety response results from the release into the blood stream of a number of these hormones which the brain creates in response to stress in the environment, chief amongst these are Adrenaline and Nor- Adrenaline which increase heart rate, hasten breathing and tense muscles in readiness for a fight or flight situation.
